Unloading Objects

Examples and exercises to explain the unloading process.

Overview

Once data objects are no longer required for viewing, interpretation, modeling or design purposes, they can be unloaded from memory. The unloading process removes the data objects from the following windows and control bars:

  • All windows showing 2D/3D data (Plots and 3D windows)

  • Loaded Data control bar

  • Sheets control bar

  • Holes control bar

Unless the files are removed from the Project, they will continue to be shown in the Project Files control bar; this area shows a list of the physical files associated with your project, regardless of whether they have been loaded into memory or not.

The most important point to note about unloading data is that no physical data is lost; the data is simply removed from memory.

It can be re-loaded at any time by either selecting it in the Project Files browser or by dragging and dropping the appropriate files into a receptive display window. Once an 'file' has been loaded into memory, it is referred to as an 'object'.

Quick Keys

There are several quick keys available to control the unloading of specific data types:

  • "eal":  the erase-all command will unload all string data objects from memory. Redrawing after this command will show a blank display until objects are re-loaded.

  • "eaw": the erase-wireframes can be used to unload all wireframe data from memory.

  • "eap": unload point data from memory.

  • "ead": unload drillhole data objects from memory.
